This is(I suppose) where I've been this last little while.
Not waiting for a bus, just, you know, around.
Calgary, if we need to be specific.
I'll say that I do this(blogging) in phases, and anyone that keeps up would likely agree.
Phases is a good way of roping apathy, frustration, lack of commitment and a handful of other things in to a single word I suppose.
It's not like I don't have a million ways to stay active.
Twitter.
iPhone.
Instagram.
They all talk with Tumblr and Blogger.
So why aren't I more active?
I suppose I just make the choice to not be.
I've said before "I'll change. You'll see. This time, it will be different."
It really never turns out to be true.
So I wont say it.
Though I suppose I'm dancing around it.
But it is getting colder.
...though I think I've said that before as well.
Well hell.

Normally I rant.
I rant about how I haven't blogged in forever.
Then I rant about some cryptic stuff that no one who reads this would ever understand.
That's the norm.
I guess by that scale of things that today would be a crazy change of pace then.
Music.
I haven't blogged music in years.
Two years really.
Two years ago I ran a two hour podcast of sorts with a very good friend.
We would do a 'dance' and a 'death' half.
Everything we were stoked on or had been listening to lately.
Then we stopped.
Stuff happened.
Life went on.
But lately I've been getting myself back in to my old love of exploring new music.
I listened to a few playlists on my iPod only to realize these playlists have not changed in a year.
So I cleared everything off.
Set it to shuffle.
And have been discovering favorite tracks I had forgot all about.
New tracks I had forgot all about.
And seeking out new tracks.
I've found my favorite album of 2010.
I've found old albums of favorite bands I was unaware I was missing.
I've found great singles.
Amazing remixs.
Awful awful music.
Everything.
So music.
We'll try this out.
Blogging about music again.
I'll try and keep it brief.
But as per usual, I'm sure we've already gone beyond that point.

First up is a remix.
MIA vs Flux Pavillion.
I like when a person(s) can take a track I'm only so-so about and make it in to a track I want to listen to more and more.
That is the case with this remix of Internet Connection.
I originally heard the MIA track and just wasn't sold.
Nothing against the track, but it was just missing something for me.
The intro wasn't a good start for me.
The song seemed like it was missing one of those key elements which was just keeping it at ok for me.
Then I heard this remix.
Now we have a whole handful of elements tossed in which have just sunk their hooks in to me.
There is still things I could do without.
It's not a perfect remix(for me).
There is the very tell tale sounds of dubstep tiptoeing around the background.
There is a synth part that starts up about three minutes in that almost takes me out of it.
But those are small complaints for a remix which otherwise makes me enjoy the song a whole lot more.
I especially think it uses MIA's line of "I'm down on my internet connection" in a much better way than the original track does.
So we start with a remix.

Then we jump tracks for a moment.
Everyone knows Peter Bjorn & John.
Everyone.
You included.
You're all aware that they have those foot tapping head nodding songs that you want to listen to over and over again on a night in with some good friends, some good wine, a funny cat and a lot of conversation.
The track also begs for a good dance remix, but that's for another time I suppose.
But yes, they're catchy and we know it.
Well this track is no different.
If it doesn't remind you of why you fell in love with them on their first disc Writer's Block then you probably just didn't listen to it.
Or have since had some sort of head injury rendering you incapable of normal human reason, in which case I'm sorry.
Second Chance even has a brief guitar moment in it that, if you weren't listening with your full attention, might make you sit up and wonder if you just heard what you actually did or if a friends cellphone just went off in another room with a Ratatat ring tone on it.
I guess the generation older than me knows that as a definitive sign of a Queen song.
But yes, the song is catchy.
Full of great little parts which will stick in your head and make you want to annoy your friends by playing it over and over again.
Or maybe that's just me.
But that's just where Second Chance falls for me.
You couldn't make me a better indy pop track right now if you tried.
Also, you should be trying.

Did I mention I found my favorite album of 2010?
I think I did.
Do you know Sleigh Bells?
You should.
They're pretty much what I look for in a band these days.
That's right, only two members.
Kidding.
But really, they're fantastic.
For a long time I was a little worried they were produced.
After groups of The Kills nature taking off, can you blame a guy for being a little skeptic?
Anyways, once you look in to the band you discover they most certainly are not.
Remember Poison The Well?
Yeah, it's that guy.
The sound sure does have echoes of what we've seen in a little bit more popular format lately though.
But then there is a whole lot more.
A whole lot.
In an interview with Sleigh Bells they said that they wanted to take the breakdown portion of hardcore songs and just stretch that out for three minutes.
So now we have Sleigh Bells.
I'll take it.
I eat this stuff up.
Hard, loud, sexy and vicious.
There are so many tracks on Sleigh Bells album Treats that get me pumped up in a way I haven't felt in ages.
I'll put the cd aside for February in hopes of bringing it out in April to really fuel my outdoor adventures come Spring.
So many favorites.
This is the type of disc that really does target me.
In the same way that Zack Snyder makes movies that I wasn't aware I could like as much as I do, Sleigh Bells has made an album I wasn't aware I could ever like as much as I do also.
When I'm not listening to this cd I want to be.
For the first few months after discovering this disc I found a way to slip a track or two in to every playlist, every burnt cd, every request for new music from friends.
I've learned it doesn't always go over so well with certain groups, but as far as music for me is concerned this disc is platinum.

It's a pretty fantastic track.
You should probably listen to it really loud.
I think that's the best advice I can give you.
Sleigh Bells.

The Go! Team has always been a favorite as well.
Much in the same "get pumped up" way as the last suggestion.
Only with a lot more pop backed energy.
They've often been referred to as cheer leader in style which I don't think is actually that far off.
Anyways, they have a new disc out called Rolling Blackouts.
The album has all the things you would hope and expect from a Go! Team album without feeling stale.
The album is worth your listen if you've ever been a fan before.
There are fun songs.
Fast songs.
Instrumentals.
Epic pop marches.
Movie montages.
The whole range is there.
If you favored one previous Go! Team album over another then you'll find a half dozen tracks to love on this 13 song disc.
If you've liked the whole history so far then you're in for a treat.
It's a solid cd.
Bust-Out Brigade would have been my song of choice for you to listen to(and if you can seek it out yourself I fully encourage you to do so) but because there is an official video for T.O.R.N.A.D.O I'll link to that instead.
Don't worry, it's also fantastic.

Recently I went to Calgary for just over a week.
Visited some friends.
Did some hiking.
OK did a lot of hiking.
Drank a lot of coffee.
Met some awesome people.
Pretty much just fell in love with the city.

A few days before going to Calgary I picked up a Canon 7D.
That and the 15mm fish-eye.
Obviously I took them with me.
But what I set out to do was not use them.
Well, as much as possible.
I wanted to make this a rather analog week.
Not lo-fi in the sense that most people would think, with a plastic taped up camera and expensive square film, but just going back to where my love started and sharing that experience with a new and exciting one.
I feel far to often like shooting digital is cheating on photography with technology.
Anyways.
So I took a few rolls of film, the AE-1(everyone has these) and a box of polaroid(which I will scan eventually).
I don't care about my AE-1.
I haven't cared about any of them.
I've had a few.
But I feel because I don't care about them I tend to take them out more.
That, combined with the mysteries of film, tend to produce some of my favorite shots.
This one for instance.
Anyways.
I shot just film.
Films.
It was a ton of fun.
So was the trip.
I can't wait to go back.

....find me an apartment in Kensington maybe?

Well its getting cooler outside and that means I'm out less with the camera and in more with the drawing.
No complaints there really.
Thought I'd spend some time today getting myself back and familiar with the old faces project.

It would seem these days have been nothing but weddings.
Friends weddings.
Back and forth I find myself between home and homehome.
Seeing friends walk the isle.
It is an odd feeling if nothing else.
You're always happy for them.
They are, after all, your friends.
People moan and complain.
I don't exactly understand why.
It seems petty.
Leave your issues at home.
This is not your day.
You can be quiet for one day.
So you're in a church.
No one cares.
Shake hands and say "congratulations".
Any ways.
My friends seem to be getting married.
Married or engaged.
Which, yes, I realize is a contributing factor of the first.
So I've been dressing up(not to up) and getting my most humble of faces on and attending.
I have a really nice lighter now.
A woman broke it.
I fixed it.
It's fixed now.
But I have a really nice lighter now.
I listened to a David Cross skit a long long time ago.
His friends were talking about stupid things their kids had done.
"Jimmy stuffs ten grapes in his face, its so cute!"
I didn't think it sounded that cute.
"Grapes? Grapes? I can stuff grapes in my face. What the fuck happened to our friendship!?"
I always thought Mr. Cross made a good point.
He's funny like that.
I was worried that seeing my friends married off would change things.
It has not.
Not between the married couples and myself at least.
They are still my friends.
That doesn't change.
I can't help but feel like being surrounded by it has brought on changes though.
I'm sure it has.
How could it not?
I've changed a lot as of late.
Or made things change.
Made changes I suppose.
So stuff is constantly changing.
My last statement can't be anything but true.
Ok, I feel better with that.
I like American Slang more now than before.
The new album from Gaslight Anthem.
I wasn't sure at first but now I'm a fan.
I like it now.
I feel better about it.

I'm putting off editing the wedding from this weekend passed.
I really shout get to editing it.
I started a new book for the fifth time.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
I can never explain why but I have yet to finish it.
One third through I always tend to put it down.
I've started it many times over.
Same thing.
Every time.
I'd like to finish it this time.
I'd like to finish it for once.
I like the book so it only makes sense.
I'll probably do that with a few things this year.
I should finish more things.

So I think it was a good thing.

So it seems it is that time of year again.
Graduation.
Or fast coming at the very least.
So what does grad mean?
Well very obviously, grad shoots.
Ok, so possibly not so obvious.
But there are new graduates.
New graduates which don't exactly want the formal "stand in front of a background of lasers" shots.
That being said, a background of lasers sounds fantastic.
Where can I get myself some lasers?
Anyways.
Back to topic.
Grad shooting has been going great.
Editing just as well.
Trying out a handful of new styles and techniques.
May go back and re-edit some of the LSA shoot just to see if the new effect could breath some new life in to the photos.
Also, domain name purchased.
Feel free to give plenty of hits to luketokaryk.com once the site is up.
You can give it hits now if you would like, but there is nothing there.
Well there isn't NOTHING.
But it isn't really anything.

So this will be a fast(read: turbo fast) little update because I'm running very very late but feel super obligated to myself to get this done.
There is now, on my flickr, a handful of select shots from a shoot done recently for Local Shop Awesome & Ruby Feathers here in Winnipeg.
This is just one little candid from towards the end of the shoot.

So back to Winnipeg I went.
And this is what I try keep busy with most of the time.
I haven't really had a computer set up since December so I apologize for a lack of new digital stuff.
But I kinda don't.
I've been shooting(not as much as I'd like, but it was cold out!).
I've been drawing.
Give it a month and I'll have my desktop set up top on a real desk(not like its current home on the floor) and then we can get back in to the full swing of things.
Pin Ups will resume.
I've got two planned for sure.

My boss sent me out shooting yesterday with a Pentax K7, the 17-70 and a fellow co-worker(who was lucky enough to bring along his D700).
I don't know what it was for.... he told us to go out for a half hour.
Nothing happened with the photos.
He didn't ask me if I knew the gear any better.
Bonding I guess?
If that is/was the case, I want to go bond every day with new people.
I mean, he paid me for that time to go walk around downtown Winnipeg shooting.... and, erm, maybe getting coffee.
Anyways, not much has changed since my last visit.

Hey there bloggy ol' pal, its been a while.

So what is this?
This would be the FIRST Pin Up of 2010!
Weow.
Also, this is probably my most favorited Pin Up done to date.
Now that said, let me rewind and ALSO say that there are a majillion things I'm picking out that I need to fix up already.
But yes, certainly my favorite in the series this far.
This was for a friend Kira who, I'm pretty sure, just wanted to be a Zombie Librarian.
Well, I think we hammered that one down pretty well, no?
I mean, librarians deal with books, and books have pages, and so if I put her on a page for the illustration that has to have some deep seeded meaning or connection.... right?
Regardless, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.
I actually originally had her blue, and I still REALLY like the blue, but the one I finished was green, so that is what you're seeing.
I may(most likely will) put the same finish on the blue version and toss it up for comparison.
This is also the first Pin Up I've actually put the zombie blood on.
It reminds me of old tales from the crypt comics with the very apparent and over the top blood splatters.
Also, did anyone else know the TFTC illustrator has a Sci Fi web comic going now?
You should probably seek it out.
I'm not putting a link because I'm on a poor connection and it will take four days.
FOUR DAYS!
For reals tho, back to the illo.

Since its gotten much more rainy/windy and much much colder in Toronto I've found I haven't gone out to shoot nearly as much.
Olympus E3 owners can take a point on this one, ha.
But the reality is when the wind is knocking me over and the rain has me soaked and cold its hard to just want to go and shoot street.
So this is what I've been up to lately.
Random snaps here and there.
And random they are.
I have probably about two to three dozen shots of things in my office in funny placings and that sort of thing.
Desk top lighting projects.
Slightly nonsensical macros of things that really don't need to be.
And then plenty of "how much bokeh can I pull of in one image" shots.
This is missing the regular black letterboxing I'm so fond of because I felt it really did take away from how bold this seems.
Minus a resizing this little guy is right off the card, or SooC.

Dru was kind enough to show me that Toronto has its very own green house tucked away just a few blocks away from the busy streets in Allan Park.
It was a great little thing to find just hidden in the middle of the city.
I'll most certainly be frequenting it this winter to escape all the gross cold and snow.

If you haven't noticed yet, I may be a huge huge fan(sucker?) for/of going with very heavy left or right weighted compositions.
This is a fine example.
Doesn't it look like a little planet protected by the petals?
Or an explosions of color deep in a well lit galaxy?
Ha.

So at about 7am this morning I'm pulled out of my bed by what sounds like some one taking a comically large piece of sheet metal and bending it back and forth to make those fake movie lightning sounds.
Only thing is they aren't fake.
The sounds are the extreme wind coming from the blackness outside trying to knock both huge sets of windows out of my apartment. We leave our window open a crack at night because its not to cold yet outside but that little crack was enough that with the wind sounded like someone was trying to tear the window right out.
Worse still was once I slammed that shut and ran to my office because the windows were wide open and I didn't want to walk in and find all my camera gear had been recently introduced to the rain.
Lucky for me nothing was wet and once the windows were closed I was able to sleep sound again.

I work five days a week, which is nothing to brag about, but I enjoy my two days off and normally like to use them for whatever I actually want to do.
So when for the last two months it has been nice weather and sunny with the EXCEPTION of every Friday & Saturday(my weekend) when it decides to start gusting winds and become the rainiest days you've ever seen, well, it gets pretty old fast.
Made plans to go try shoot some street portraits?
Yah I'm sorry, that won't work now because there is a monsoon outside.
Oh hey, street art instillation being done at night?
Oh, wait no, pouring again.
Rain really 'puts a damper' on things.
Heh.
Buuuuut.
But I'm taking this time to edit.
Which I think is a huge place for me to improve so I'll take it fully.
The editing time that is.
One year ago, photo editing for me consisted of playing with levels and saturation.
Now I still use all those things, but on a much greater application.
Some days I make things that look crazy, some days I try edit natural so if you're looking at it you can't TELL it has been edited.
I think if it looks good and you don't know I've touched it, I've done the best job I can.
Anyways, this is an attempt at one of the edits I guess I would consider 'making look crazy'.

Just a quick update to one of the faces that I did for a friend of Erica's a while back.
She wanted it in a format she could print and I thought the rabbit frame would be a neat idea.

2nd request for a 'zombify me' drawing from my friend Andrea.
This one took WAY longer than any of the other ones(possibly even any two other ones combined).
I think it was the hair.
I couldn't figure out a good way to get the look I wanted for the hair and, as you can see, I ended up using dot shading to get pretty much the look I wanted.
No shading, but the black dots gives the illusion.
I think I like how it works.
Certainly something I need to play around with a little more.
Also, per her request, its a little darker than I would normally make it.
No real problem with that, but I may do a 2nd(coughthirdcough) colorway of some lighter more playful colors.
Then just some random inks to give it a not-so-static background.
Zip baff pow!

So a ton of things have happened lately, and I'm going to try and be quick about it.
Big things first.
I have officially moved to Toronto and have now spent a grand total of NINE whole days here.
Exciting I know.
I have moved in with my fantastic girlfriend Erica.
At time of writing this we have not yet killed each other. Bonus!
Also today I saw a squirrel!
Now he didn't creep in and steal any photo ops from me, but he was big and black and pretty neat looking.
Anyways, we've moved, bought shit, put it together, lived on it, got it all stinky and are now pretty much fully 'settled in'.
All that said, I have my tablet back!
Its here and in one piece... as are all the other key components(read: Computer, Me).
So what I'm doing is now accepting requests to become an Undead Pin-Up, like the one seen above.
I think its the most fun stuff I've done in a while so why not run with it.

This is a custom dunny painted by Squink(I believe).
I had a big spike in my Dunny(and all vinyl at that) love about four years ago. It was the highpoint of designer toys for me. About three years prior my interest had been growing but three years ago was certainly the spike.
After that I had to sit back, put the visa down, log of Rotofugi and start thinking "Why the fuck am I being like a disney fan for all this new shit people keep releasing"?
So after having the "stop buying so many toys" talk with myself I downsized and went cold turkey for a while.
I still love a dunny now and then, and tokidoki makes some toys I just think are fantastic, but my vinyl addiction has certainly calmed down a ton.
Now I keep myself reserved. Pick up a blindbox maybe here and there, you know something for the office or as a small thank-you gift for a friend maybe, but that is about it.
I've noticed that instead of being so crazy about the dunnys that now I'm more crazy about designers, some of which have toys or dunnys.
I'd much rather follow a few people I really like, and if they do a figure or something I also like then support them and buy that.
I, however, could no longer justify being one of those people that has so many 'toys' at home that they start getting put up at work and at the families house(you know who you are) just because you don't have enough room for the latest zipper pull let alone another eight inch fig.
I've also decided that I'd rather have a print.
I mean, prints go in frames.
Frames go on walls.
And after all, I have tons of wall space, right?
Sure I can load shelving up(which I plan to) and just stack stuff and display things in front of one another, but I think the wall is where its really at.
A few floating shelves maybe.
A print here, a photo there.
Cool frames, cool frames framing fabric.
Really it all looks pretty good to me at this point.
I can't recall where I was originally going with this little run.
I wonder if there is a clean digital print of this little guys pattern?
Isn't his stomach fantastic?
I love the tufts of fur and the leaves.

I move to Toronto one week today.
Well more correctly yesterday.
This time next week I'll LIVE in Toronto.

We have a place.
We're pretty stoked.
Its an exciting thing once I forget about all the stress of packing and moving cross province with all our(mostly my) crap.

But yes we are moving.

I also have my good friend Scott right about to start working on some webspace for me, so a legit site will be up and functional soon.
That I'm also pretty stoked on.
Then its a waterfall.

And yeah, I've packed my tablet.

I have so many people daily that ask the most silly questions at the camera shop I'm currently at(for one more day, sad).
I love answering all the questions because, well really, I love talking cameras but I could see how some of them can frustrate other employees.
Especially when you get the same question four or five times a shift every shift, or an hour on those busy days.
But really, they don't know, and they have no idea you've answered that exact question a kajillion times so you help them out and make there day.
Easy as that.
But the cards, right.
So someone comes in and asks you a question.
Next day, comes back, same question.
Or maybe it isn't even a repeat offender.
Maybe its one person who is very snappy.
Or not even snappy.
Not even acting 'entitled'.
Maybe you just pick a random person.
Anyways.
They walk up and shoot a question your way you feel is pretty standard knowledge and that they really should know.
Bust open your fancy dancy card holder and BAM, slide one their way.

That is actually how I got on this Yukon kick.
There is a place in the Yukon called Dawson City.
It was an old goldmine town from what I've read.
Then the gold ran out.
Then they became an almost ghost town.
So what do ghost towns do to not be ghost towns?
Well if you're Dawson City, you turn to tourism.
Bring in fishers, campers, hikers and the like.
You paint all your buildings(and beautifully at that) to look like old prospect buildings, and you let them come to you.
That is what I want to do.
I want to drink at the Sour Toe club.
But what I really want to do is hike.
There is a river that dried up.
The river had big boats.
The boats just got left.
I want to go hike, and camp, and explore these boat carcasses.
I want to see these giant frames just abandoned on the side of the river because no one cared about them any more.
And I want to hike it.
I think it would be amazing.

So tomorrow Erica and I will be jetsetting off for Toronto for the first time.
This journey will have us going up against all sorts of potential landlords and employers in search of both Jobs and apartments.
Well, jobs mainly me.
I'm all sorts of excited.
So many things that appeal about Toronto.
I'm not going to get myself all worked up before hand, but I am going to enjoy what possibilities there will be around every corner that I just don't think were available before.
And also its big. Oooooh.
Really though, that plays a large part in it.
Every person I meet currently can, in one link or less, be connected to almost every other person I meet.
Not a bad thing at all but I'm looking forward to the whole shiny new feel of everything and everyone.
What I'm NOT looking forward to is the unemployment rate in Ontario that I keep hear is climbing and climbing.
That being said I don't intend on sitting on a stool all day and hitting pieces of bent metal with a hammer, so I hope I'll be ok.
THAT being said, I think that the people who were manufacturing cars and other like products are probably good people, and not the lazy useless drunks my last comment would have most likely made them out to be.
I come from a long line of government workers in my family, so poke your fun. Or don't. If you don't, we could have cake.
I can only guess that the reason I just typed "have cake" is because I'm listening to Electric Six's track Slice Of You.
Also on that topic I really like St. Vincent's Marry Me album much more than Actor. I think there is so much more on that album for me to enjoy.
Anyways.
Tomorrow we drive in to Winnipeg, hit up chapters for some printed riches, and then hit the runway with wings out and off to Toronto.

Oh, on the topic of point, was anyone else kinda let down by Pixar's UP?
I mean, still probably top ten percent of best animated films out this last ever.... but I feel like it was such a diversion from their normal work and felt pretty strange in comparison to past films.
I can't pin it down, possibly because it wasn't fleshed out enough... I'm not sure.
The dog named Doug was fantastic.
I think that is how we all feel about dogs.
The kid was probably how we all also feel about kids.
Annoying.
But all that said, I really did like it, it was a lot of fun and I would watch it again without argue.
The 3D portions of the film didn't feel like a gimmick either, which I'm pretty sure is a first for a 3D animated film.
Also now I have some rad old-man frames.
Ooh, Adapt should have tees running through the press right away.
I want my "88 - Roots" tee.

So this started as just something for my friend Troy to put on a flag for "Go Skateboard Day" and then became a deck graphic for a local skate shop Senate.
What I hope is that they put just the skull and ink splats on a wood grain deck, no backing fill color.

I might go back and take a few more stabs at the teeth.
They were the FIRST thing I did and I think they could use another go.

I feel like I've hit a stand still with it.
There is so much more I want to DO to it, but I just can't put one foot forward to start that yet.

I just had the template bouncing around in the background and thought "Hell, why not"?
So do you think it would look better with much much MUCH more dirty line art?

Over the last few weeks I have had dozens of people asking me if polaroid film is still made and available.
I guess that is what spurred this slightly retro sunday shirt.

A lot faster and a lot less thought than a normal piece, but I watched THE FLY with some friends on Sunday and this was fresh in my head so I ran with it.

So I've started 2 new art project blogs with a few good friends and I thought I'd let everyone know.

The 1st is Daily Diptych.
DD is Matt and myself in an attempt to get Matt drawing more.
He always says he doesn't draw nearly enough if at all lately, and I'm never going to turn down a 'forced' draw session, so DD was born.
We theme it week to week, draw daily, and post.
Simple as that.

The 2nd culprit is MakeMakeMake, a more digital styled art blogject of much the same nature between Scott and myself.
MMM involves us giving the week a theme, and then creating something we think looks cool based on the theme.
For the next little while we are doing our own take on the good old alphabet books you would have in gradeschool.
This week, being the first, we are tackling "A is for...".
This is Scotts first stab at anything like this, so it should be fun at the very least.
As where DD with Matt spawned from a need, MMM spawned from a lack.
Or a self set deviation. That would be more proper.
Scott and I always seem to find time at work to do anything but, and the MakeMakeMake blogject is the outcome of just that.

Anyways, You can check both out if you so wish.
Even though we've been setting weekly deadlines for ourselves we do make a point to get progress pics and what not up mid week to keep things from getting stale.

Rainy Day

So its pouring rain out today so the obvious thing to do is crank up some "Does It Offend You, Yeah?" in the background, grab a coffee, blogroll for shoes I'll love far to much and never own and then tablet the shit out of something for an hour or two.
In this case two.
First real happy with tablet work.
Everything pretty much up until now has been getting my bearings with the tablet.
Nothing overly experimental.
Nothing overly using my own personal style.
Just getting down lines, handling, smoothing out my workflow, that shit.
Today, with the thunder and rain outside, decided to actually sit down and make something that I would want to make on a tablet if I didn't have one.
One of those "this is one of the reasons I got this beautiful piece of hardware" things.
Now granted, not finished, and totally first stab, but I'm pretty jacked on it.
I keep repeating myself, but I love the tablet and everything I do on it becomes my new favorite thing from it

30 Minute Roto

So using iTunes EVER wonderful smart playlist I went about making myself a 30 minute soundtrack to another tablet adventure.
Fill 30 minutes, play only these genres, please to blondie, and off we go.

I rushed this one a little more and had a little less detail to work with, but its certainly doing the job as far as practice goes.

Also recently I found Twitter to be a god like tool.
Tool?
No maybe not tool.
Distraction!

Its fun.

It gives me just enough to quench my "I'm currently bored or restless" mood, and not enough that I get lost in it and waste to much time.
I can do it from work, while out for a walk, in the theater before a flick, on the toilet, or EVEN while blending!
Also I like the little tiny brief 'at this exact moment' important tweets of other people as opposed to full day re-caps.
Not that those are bad, these just seem more personal.
There are also some great brands that are Tweeting.
There are also some ass backwards terrible brands that are tweeting.
Some times Michael Bay and Cobra Commander just get me through my day.
You can do it from a Blackberry or iPhone if you're on a data plan in Canada.
You can do it from fuck anywhere in the states!
You should.

Spent another 31 minutes and 08 seconds with CS4 and the tablet playin around getting the feel and drawing one of my old Pop Cult-Gurus.

Tablet Test

So I've recently gotten a Tablet.
I love it.
And I am HORRIBLE at it.
But yes, love it.
I have NOT, however, had enough time to play with it.
For having had it for almost five days now, I think I have spent maybe all of three hours with it.
Half an hour the first day installing it and getting the feel of using it for generic shit like web browsing, clicking and moving folders... yah know, generic crap.
Half an hour the second day installing the trial of Corel Painter and playing around with that(the results which were a pretty brutally painted version of DC's Red Tornado character) to try and get an idea of how illustration works.
Then I had to take two days with out touching it.
Sad.
THEN I installed my CS4 trial.
Then I tried the tablet with Photoshop CS4.
Then I found a joy I doubt I'll ever get again from any piece of technology.
So I played with photoshop and the tablet for about 43 minutes.
And yeah... rotoscoped some shit :p

Erica, don't get mad at me for doing this one.

Yes, so I love the way the tablet interacts with Photoshop CS4 and vice versa.
Liner Note - I didn't use the undo command ONCE while playing around with this roto.

So for as long as my educational trial is, I'll be trying to get more tablet/cs time in.

Also, TotallyRadShow is taking up to much of my regular 'listen to loud fast music' time. I'm not sure how to cope with this dilemma.

So it seems the Oscar Noms are in.

There is some things that I'm sure are no surprise to peoples, as well as a few that I have no doubt people would argue should or should not be on.
The list is full of top grade movies(for the most part) so as long as Marisa Tomei doesn't go home with anything I think we've all won.

There is enough repeat films across many categories that I'm sure SOMEone is going to walk away with... oh... at least thirteen!
That is a little bit of an embellishment, but you get the idea.

It seems like a little bit of a low blow to see Iron Man down towards the bottom of the list.
I wasn't expecting it to win Best Picture by any means, but it almost seems like what they gave it nominations for was almost for the sake of "Well it was good... it just wasn't THAT good... give it some sound awards".

The only thing I really want to see take home though?

So I've had my tablet now for a full 24 hours.
I didn't REALLY want to go in to work today, but seeing as how they're paying for my tablet(kinda. They pay me to work and I pay for tablet. See how the circle works?) and seeing as how they are the ones who order it in for me and let me buy it cheaper than normal, I should probably go.
So I spent all of an hour yesterday setting it up, then about an hour today getting the feel of the pen for shit like web browsing and what not.
I installed painter essentials 4 on my machine about 40 minutes ago.
This is my first little experiment with painter and its wonderfulness.
Keep in mind, first fuck'n tablet sketch ever.
Done in charcoal because, well, it was the first thing I clicked on.
Ha.

I'll play more and what not come Sunday.
I really am busy until then.
Kinda possibly even to busy to get more tablet time in, which hurts to say, but its in my home now and I'm not letting it go... so there will be more time ahead.
Just not until sunday.

If anyone knows any smoke'n brush sets or any cool little tutorials, again, shout them my way.
There could be a pack of Big League Chew in it for yah *wink wink*

Police Officer James Whelan was working a shift in South Van one morning when he saw a small candy red hatchback driving aggressively.
Whelan had seen a lot of reckless drivers in Van. Being no stranger to them, took his regular precausions, calling in the license plate and offense.
Whelan watched the hatchback blow through two red lights and cut off half a dozen cars before he hit the lights and started to pursue the car.
Despite the lights and siren roaring from Whelan's car, the red hatchback seemed to be ignoring him, or trying to evade him.
After four minutes of following the hatchback with lights and sirens on to no success, Whelan decided to try get in front of the car and cut it off.
As Whelan accelerated to pass the red hatchback, he noticed the driver was a young woman, no older than 25, driving with her knee, knitting with both hands!
Whelan was shocked that the small candy red hatchback driver that had been driving so aggressively was a young woman knitting.
Whelan, now perfectly beside the woman in the hatchback, rolled down his passenger side window and shouted at the woman "PULL OVER!".
The woman looked over at Whelen with a giant smile on her face, apparently still not noticing the sirens, and with a childlike innocence said "No, a scarf!"

Last Night

Made some stuff.

Now on these little ones below you can't really tell, but they're done with red and blue and are actually 3D if you have a set of glasses and are, well, you know, not looking at them from the internet.
It actually worked out pretty rad for something I just kinda tossed out.

The first chicken done on cardboard up above is huge.
I guess the scale of the photo doesn't really do it justice.
Anyways.
Large.
The SECOND chicken in 3D is an 8x10.
Then the chameleon and the fish are a two pack, tiny guys, coming in at only a 4x6.
Each coming with their own set of(possibly free in the mail) 3D Glasses.
I promise they are not Hannah Montana themed.
...do I owe her royalties for using her name?
Is she Royalty yet?

Anyways.

The cardboard one is by far my favorite.
I'm going to go back and see if I can do something similar, but instead of using ALL white as a background, use white just to highlight certain points.
Almost like shadows, but you know, highlights.
The texture from the paint and the cardboard felt right.
I mean, its not by any means a super good medium to work with, but for being cardboard, I wasn't to disappointed.

As for the 3D guys.... the 8x10 I think worked well, the two smaller ones... I think need something more.
Maybe texture?
I tried overlaying them on some things, newsprint, nicer paper, but nothing really worked.
So starch white they stay.
Oh well.

Oh, also, being as its almost been two months since my last post... some shit has changed.

1st) New Job
2nd) Obviously more productive
3rd) Apartment finally livable.
4th) Giftmas
5th) other stuff I'm sure.

The whole point of that is this.
The new job is much better, much less stress, and I find I'm being more productive as a direct result.
Also, being more productive AND just getting off of Giftmas and Giftmas eve means I have a handful of photos of shit I got and people I saw over the holidays that I'll be posting with.

So I was trying to tell some one about blogger for, you know, a blogging tool.
I decided a decent example of its range in writing/photos was to show her my own blog.
I didn't realize how much I had neglected it until just now(then).
I realize that my last... what, four posts(?) have all been the 'i havn't updated in forever, promise promise bitch' posts, but I hopefully actually mean it now.
I say hopefully, and plan on holding to that, because now I am moved in to my apartment finally and with good internet at that.
So the drawings certainly have not stopped.
But now the posts can catch up to the drawings.
I even have some neat projects going with a few friends that might get tossed up.
Also, if you didn't know, TeamDeathMatchRadio is officially finished.
We had our last show about two wednesdays ago.
It went really well and I'm happy with how it ended.
Even happier that I got the chance to do it.
But yes.
It was pretty fun while it lasted.
You can still check all the old podcasts and playlists, posts as well, over at the TeamDeathMatchDotCa site.
We are going to keep it fairly active.
Upload new content.
Not so much new two hours shows.
But maybe a single track here and there.
A good remix we dig.
Or maybe just a link we really like.
So that will still be slowly burning until the next full phase TDM project can get off the ground.

Also I drew a chicken this morning I'm fairly happy with.

Seems the ol blog has been a bit absent from my to do list as of late.
Yeah, just again, been busy.
People get busy and still maintain this stuff pretty well, but I'm not so much of a multi-tasker like other people I know.

Its been one month

...Since I last posted, which is straight up RIDIC.
I guess it will be longer than one month, because I don't consider this a post.
I just haven't really had time.
Which is such a cop out thing to say, but its kinda true.
We have been seriously understaffed at work, and I've also been trying to keep up a little bit of a social life, so I just haven't had the chance to get anything scanned lately.
But I'll get that changed up right away.

Been pretty busy.

Got a new sketchbook moleskin.

Especially giraffes.
They have always been an animal I have struggled with.

The Things That Play Beats

Its been a few days.
But yeah, laptop is up and running, sketchbook isn't getting ignored as a result, and the weather couldn't be more promising.
So yeah, sketches.

This girls eyes were kinda fucked.
It seems to be a mistake I've made a few times lately.

This chick was also kinda messed. You may be able to tell.
I was trying to make her looking down, a little bit of perspective, yah know, and it just didn't fly.

But after I messed up her face more than the last Superman movie, I decided to remedy it by filling the page with other shit I might like more.
This guy came from it.

So did a tree, that also looks just like the fish, but yeah... I don't know where that photo took off too.
Maybe its watching Superman Returns and crying.

I drew some life stuff in comic form also. Ionno, sketches. Work was... well there was the opportunity to draw a lot, so I pounced on it.

I tried drawing a girl wearing a vest.
I was like "fuck yah man, vests are like the PBR of overshirts".
Anyways, first shot was.... well, I don't dig it at all.
I'm pretty sure this was the week of "Great Idea! YEAH! Wait... thats what it turned out like? Fugk... One more try!"

I obviously was upset and confused with a lot of the shit going on there. It.... well, confuses me. I don't know what my hand and brain were doing to make this shit. Anyways, I like it not very much at all.
This second one though was like fuck'n head on.
I think my brain was in some state of frozen-retardation for the first girl, then kinda rebooted and got its shit together for this one.

Yah, more so happy.

Also, not sure if I've ever mentioned this before, but along with a friend of mine Scott I have a radio show.
Every wednesday from 4:30-6:30 on 106.5fm... if you're in the area.
If you're NOT... we're working on the website right now.
We're going to be putting up the show in podcast format for anyone who wants to steal off our site.
Its a 2 hour mp3 file... but we may be breaking it up in t' two 1 hour tracks.
We always do the first hour as a dance/pop/hiphop/techno hour, then our second hour is rock/metal/punk and the likes.
Anyways, once the site is out of our own private beta I'll toss the link up for anyone who wants to check it out.

Erica went to London for a few weeks over my birthday and valenteens day.
I told her not to buy me anything so she could just consume everything herself, but always defiant she snuck in a few little things anyways(Dunny&Postcard).

Erica ALSO made me some very rad and very late xmas then birthday mittens.
Here they are in all their glory.

You can barely tell, but they have a really sweet finish(?) pattern on them. A snowflake/flower type deal. I asked her to use two very dark darks so that it was almost impossible to tell.

She also also just so happens to SELL them in a color combo of your choice. You know, if you want to look badass leading your gang of laundry room bandits, like myself.

We(Scott and I) went to go see CancerBats. THEY were rad, everything up untill them however was a pile of ass. Much like what I suspect bands opening for Poison would be like on a scale of suck.

This was for Erica from Scott and my trip to go see CancerBats.
I make fun of the french on a regular basis.
Its not so much FRENCH, but one dude I once worked with who ruined it for the whole class.

So yeah, thats some shit for now.

I'm kinda pissed and kinda not. I knew it was coming. Well, let me start over.
I had no fuck'n idea she was going to die. None. No signs, nothing. worked great on thursday. That was thursday. Friday I went to get some shit online. Girl wouldn't start. I was confused. Eventually she did kick up. Took a good ten minutes to get to the desktop, and then another three or four to load all the items up. This has never happened before, and normally it doesn't take more than one minute to get up and loaded. Like I Said, she never even showed signs.
I got the color wheel in between skipping itunes tracks, and random freezing when tabing through windows. Pretty shit. I even saved an illustrator sketch that took over five to refresh. Also a new one.
Next day, she worked fine. A hickup I guess? Good shit. But I was scared, so I backed everything up like... well... like some one who backs stuff up often, and thus is fairly good at it. So yeah, I backed a bunch of important shit(read:music/photos/resume/illustrations) up. Thats good.
Thats especially good because it took over a half hour to load to my desktop this morning, then another ten to load items. Nothing seems to want to run. Its as if my laptop is in a constant state of "Fuck you" stalling. Its painfull to try and work around.
BUT, I have everything off it I need.
I just have no secondary computer.
At this moment I am on my parents educational-software filled pc.
I've stooped this low.
But until I can get my hands on a new iMac this blog is going to be slow.
Slow to the point of almost dead.
Sorry.
I'll do what I can from where when I can.
But for those of you that check this(Thanks Erica, you're great), well, don't hold breath, or soup. It will get cold, and then you might pass out, and wake up all wet from cold soup falling on you.

So I went to FlashInTheCan Winnipeg RoadShow.
If you know what that is, rad.
If you don't, over here I guess.
It was a flash developers conference I guess.
Anyways, two days, and about six or seven different speakers.
Some were great.
Really.
Like I cannot explain how great some of them were.
Like this guy.
I got an original print of his.
Its retarded levels of good.
Math for art, who knew.
But yes, some were very very good.
Others were this guy.

Horribly enough he was the presenter for the 10am-5pm "Whats new with Flash CS3" presentation.
It gave me plenty of time to do a few of these on the back of everyone with in reaching distances comment cards.

So that was ok.
Also, I guess I should say one thing first(...last?)
I'm not a flash developer.
He was.
He was stoked on what he was saying.
He stoked up some other people.
I wasn't one of them.
But he was knowledgeable.
I didn't dig it, but that was just me.
I chatted him up over lunch, and he seemed like a honest good guy, loves what he does.
But his presentation bored me.
So yah.
Flash In The Can Winnipeg Road Show.
I went.
For two days.
Slept on the floor of a hotel.
And drank my weight in coffee.

Again, Minneapolis was a great time.

And then this is once I got hot home. Its fluxing between long sleeve shirt and super thick jacket weather outside right now.

Manitoba always confused me as to how from inside it would look nice out. No wind, calm day, but then you step out side and discover you actually are now encased in a block of human ice, like some sort of Mr.Freeze aftermath.
So yes, no snow, but really fuck'n cold.

So I'm, or better we are, back from our five day stint in Minneapolis.
It was good. It was actually really good.
Then there was some suck. But good certainly overweighted the suck.
We did many things, many.
Few I will mention.
Frida Kahlo exibit at the Walker was pretty fantastic.
Everything I saw of hers made me believe she was a Pop-art Surrealist before there ever was such a thing. The level of historical background details that went in to some paintings, you would need a history major there with you to fill you in on it all.
I was in luck. And she was pretty to boot.
We also found OXOP, after many struggles.
Turns out oxop is closed. So buying TB Jackson 500 books from the BigBrain comic store down the street had to do.
We got to Soo gallery, but it was in between shows and thus had nothing up.
Randomly met Eric Carlson at RobotLove. He was kind enough to give me a few stickers and recommend a great restaurant called "The Bad Waitress".
It really was fantastic.
You seat yourself, take up your own order, and they bring food. Ok, nothing special.
So why did I love this place? It was themed with classic horror movie monsters, psi-fi stories, pulp fiction and super heroes.
We went twice. First we sat at the Captain America bar, and the second time we found ourselves at the Hawkeye table.
Maybe its because I'm a sucker for classic horror and comics, but I really did love that atmosphere. Everything from the posters to the old cd player jukebox. The menu and match books even stayed in character.
I may have stolen a match book for my own growing collection of memory clutter.
I left them an illustrated thank you, for the great food and atmosphere(as you might be able to make out).

I think they may have thought we were all weird, sitting around drawing and then taking stupid pictures.
Either way, it was seriously awesome.
So thanks to every one that made suggestions for us.
From the galleries to eateries. Hotels to shops.

Also, has any one ever been accosted by a Homelan Security worker while on the Metro?

So I have a bad habit of drawing at the vendor.
Its only bad when I neglect doing actual work.
This weekend was completely dead, so I found my self drawing a fair bit.
I also have a bad habit of drawing on envelopes.
They're kinda the only thing around to use.
Yesterday I found three pencil crayons. A green, a yellow and a weird orange/brown mix.
Then in a crazy chain of events, I found two Limes in the freezer with all the beer.

Then all the pencil crayons broke.
I tried sharpening them with a giant knife we have for cutting cardboard.... but it didn't go over so well.
It pretty much resulted in more broken pencil crayons, in smaller pieces, with more slivers.

Over the weekend, I had some drunks come in.
Some is being polite.
DRUNKS is being polite.
I had a lot of angry old alcoholics come in and stink up the vendor with gasoline and human bowel stench.
They were also overly liberal with any issues currently in their life.
Apparently how to properly wipe and bath was the only issue they didn't feel like discussing.
I made a point to draw the drunks.
I thought it was a good alternative to giving them all free columbian neck ties.

The drunk that wore the hat and argued over ten cents almost broke me.
Ten cents... to get smokes? Then he asks for free stuff? Like the promotions hats and mugs? After coming back to foul the air again over ten cents I didn't actually fuck'n owe him?
Sorry homeless people, one person has ruined it for the whole class. Go away now.

You know, I used to be innocent.

The scariest thing about that picture is that I've reverted back to that exact same haircut.

Two days until I take off to minneapolis via train.

Just a fast little post, as I'm on my way out.
Keeping with my "A Drawing A Day" project. ADAD if you will, not to be confused with the more common ADD or ADHD.
Also, as opposed to just throwing down pages and pages of sketches I tried fit them each in to nice little boxes. Keeps the white space at bay.
A few ideas for felt monsters with Erica.

I really like anatomy and muscle structure. And faces. That don't look like ugly boys.
I like bears, and mesh hats.

Shazam is one of my favorite comic characters of all time. GREAT powers rivaling the man of steel and with out the tainted image AND he's a little kid! Growing up, the thought that I could say a magic word to be struck by magical lightening that would transform me in to a super hero, a guardian of eternity, it was just a great thought. Also, faux-gansters are dope.
Also, I know halloween is coming up fast.
I also know that this is THE 'holiday' for many people.
I feel like it should be for me also.
I mean, I love horror, gore, socializing, parties, candy and especially zombies.
But even all that said I can't help but look at Halloween as the door way to cold weather.
Cold weather I'm not such a fan of.
But even with that in the back of my head I'm still plenty excited/worried about what to be for Halloween.
Maybe some thing in this range?

I'll say sorry for not keeping to my deadline, but it doesn't really matter to much.
I'll also say sorry for not uploading ALL the photos, but I'm running short on time and I think this is pretty solid.

So now I have net.
Solid, non wireless net.
Problems have been solved.
Well, in the connectivity department at least.
They're a solid bunch. I hear they enjoy cake on a daily basis.
This is not an experience I can also share with my days in tech support.

Boys of summer

...we have this pretty sub-par sattelite radio at 'work'.
I air quotes work because, while I consider it a job, I do not consider it work. Nor a career.
I'm doing temp work at a beer vendor down the street from my house.
Thats beside the point.
Well, kinda.
In any given seven hour shift, I do maybe a combined total of one hour of work.
Especially if its a weekday, like monday or tonight(a tuesday).
I guess its comforting to know that on weekdays there isn't alot of people going out and getting wasted, but it does make for a slow and borring evening.
So I've adobted ways to pass the time.
I'll bring a magazine that Erica has given me.
Or a sketchbook, perhaps also one Erica has given me.
I'll draw the last person to come in, or just go on random flickr accounts with people on the streets, and draw them.
More often than not I also draw people just from my imagination. Taking bits and pieces of people I've seen, and have commited to memory for some reason or another.
Its a good way to pass the time, and a great way to practice my drawing and new styles and what not. You wouldn't imagine how many facialy funny peoples walk in to a beer vendor on a day to day basis.
Again, I'm straying.
So what I've been trying to do lately is draw. And not just drawing in my free time either. Setting aside time to draw. Draw anything. Draw faces, a page of just eyes and expressions maybe. Or maybe two pages of monsters, animals, pop cans talking about the last episode of 'so you think you can dance'. Anything. Just drawing. And I don't mean casual drawing while the tv is on or I'm at the mercy of instant messenger, I mean drawing.
Now, I might have the odd book out, but I think a little research is allowed, no?

So since I'm posting this from work, I don't have anything to show.
But what I'm going to try get in the habit of doing, is every friday, scanning and uploading all the past weeks sketches.
I've been really slacking on that lately.
I blame a few things. Things like my laptop not having any access to internet outside of a maybe once in a three week trip to a library or coffee shop. I also blame things such as myself, because I could probably go out of my way. Oh well. Hindsight right.

So yes, hopefully if everything goes correct, this friday I will have a few new sketches from the moleskin to toss up here.

This is my personal goal. Help me keep to it.
I hear it all the time. Drawing every day makes you better. At first you might not be showing it, but knowing and thinking in that creative mindset, about your lines, the transition from picture to paper... all these things. Over time, they get better, you train yourself. This is a good habit I have to keep up. I'll try not to slack.

Now, to go put in my half hour of manual labour.

Some Moos... I mean News.

So I'm ordering a hand full of new Moo cards.
Kinda excited about the whole thing. Putting a few personal illustrations, some typography, a photo or two and so on. There will be both Lazersquid and LukeInProgress cards, so if anyone has a few moo of there own kicking around and wants to trade up just give me a shout.
I've seen some crazy good designs on these little guys, and some wonderful uses for them as well.

The bird seen above is also in the works of being made in to a limited run of t-shirts. Maybe t-shirts with moo cards for tags, of the original illustration. Actually, that doesn't sound to bad, I'm going to expand on this idea after some caffeine.

I seem to be getting more productive lately. I blame the weather. When it rains all day you aren't exactly tempted by long mountain bike rides, skateboarding ventures, or hours spent in the pool.
The down side of this productivity as a result of weather is that... well... it means its no longer summmer outside. And that in its own is a bumber.
Ah well, I live in Manitoba. We know its coming, it does every year. Same time and just as strong.

I wonder how Vancouver or San Francisco would play out for winter.
Any one in Australia renting rooms?
These are questions that taunt me.

This isn't a post, but kinda a reminder for me that I need to post some thing.
Its been 22 days since the birds.
This is my personal reminder to get my laptop to some wireless and get what I've been working on up.
Because I'm not on my computer right now.
Makes sense to me.

A boy falls in love with a girl who's brother gets drafted to the army and as a result the two lovers become peace activists, in the form of a musical, all set to the Beatles. Now I'm not a Beatles fan, however it does look so visually appealing that I can't help but put this at the top.
Michael Clayton
I've always been a fan of a good story, a deep character and more twists than a choose your own adventure book. Also, Batman. But honestly, the trailer alone is more catching than some movies I've seen, and thats exciting.
Rendition
I showed the trailer for Rendition to my girlfriend Erica in hopes that she would get so excited about it she would 'force' me to see it with her. Her reaction wasn't exactly what I had planned. I think her exact wording was "oh, is this the video where the journalist gets his head cut off?" and then stopped watching the trailer.
It took me a little bit to promise her it wasn't that poor Angelina Jolie flick that no body cared about.
That told nothing about Rendition, but it still looks very promising. Even after I remind myself that I'm not a fan of Reese Witherspoon.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
It was filmed just down the street from where I went to college. That was enough for me. Then I saw the trailer. That was enough for me had I not gone to college.

No Country for Old Men
I'm fairly faithful to certain directors. Fargo & Big Lebowski? Thats right, the Coen brothers direct a mayhem filled violent tale of a hunter who finds more money, drugs and bodies along the Rio than he probably ever had wanted. The trailer looks all sorts of good, the actors already have me interested, and the story isn't half bad either(in a 'way of the gun' sort of fashion). I doubt I'll get a chance to see this in a theater, but when it comes to video I hope I remember that I wanted to see it.

My Kid Could Paint That
I'm not an overly grand documentary fan, but this just tugs on some thing that I've argued so so much about. In my head, with others. Art, what makes it, is there a line, and when is it compromised. A 4 year old with art lover parents, involved in a scene, and an agent who(as the trailer makes him look) exploits the living hell out of her. Interesting.
Run, Fatboy, Run
I'm a Simon Pegg fan. Thats almost enough for me.

Any of those on their own seem to have some worth.
But, like any film, hype and a trailer can lead you in a completely wrong direction. Same is true for the opposite. I've seen a handful of movies that look terrible only to realize that they are gems themselves.
Ah well, guess we can only wait and see.

This was a long reminder.

I've lost all faith in westerns. The ones made recently are brute. There is no getting around that. They all suck the big one. BUT. BUT! Between 3:10 to Yuma & The Assassination of Jesse James, I now have faith again. These look to revive a long dead(or at least the equivalent of) genre. Here's hope.
Dragon Wars
I love a good(bad)Sci-fi & Fiction just as much as any other psuedo-closet geek. That being said, this movie looks retarded. Retarded in the best most fantastic wonderful way I could ever dream. There is dragons. They some how get in to our world. Then they fight. They fight each other and us. And we get eaten and fight them. Then there are some dragons that have guns on them. Like a Cadillacs & Dinosaurs for now-a-days. This looks to be everything I wish Godzilla would have and could have been.

The trailer is all over tv now. This movie has been a hype in the wind for quite some time now. But it really does look to at least be entertaining. And really, what straight male doesn't love Clive Owen & Paul Giamatti

30 Days of Night
Can anyone argue that some of the best movies as of late have been from some of the best graphic novels? 30 Days of Night looks to add one more notch to the belt. Really though, I'm not a big vampire fan lately. The movies that portray them have been par at best. However with HardCandy director David Slade behind the wheel of this, I have a little(read:a lot of) hope.
American Gangster
Does any one else love the Scott Free intro? Ridley Scott, Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe. Whats bad there? Oh, maybe its a good looking mob drama. Who am I to say.
I Am Legend
I've been trying to tell people about this movie for... oh... a good four months now.
If I'm excited about anything over anything else on this list, this would be it.
Again, vampires? Graphic Novel? Will Smith(don't act like he isn't a solid actor)?

Aliens vs Predator: Requiem
Now I just have to get this out there. I liked the firs AvP film. Now, that being said, in NO way did I think it was a GOOD film.
Now here is what might change my mind.
This sequel is now rated R. This is what the first should have been. R is where alien and predator belong. That nice octagonal red sticker that promises me at the very least what I'm expecting from the film. Violence and gore. Now I'm not saying violence and gore make a movie great, or even remotely tolerable, but they are what these two franchises were built on. Chest burster any one?
So with that said, the trailer hasn't exactly sold me, but it has got me interested.
We'll see how it plays out I suppose.
ps: trailer is also r-rated. You know, if you're 14 and reading my 'blog'.

So whats up world? Its me, Luke.
I saw that on an mtv commercial, except it was some little lezy baller girl.
From what I understand, its a play on some book.
Apparently its a legit good book. I'll pass on the literary experience.

I like it more than the bland old one.

This isn't at all related to drawings or illustrations, I just thought it was pretty neat.
We have almost all of the available land over run with population.
We've got the skies pretty much owned as well.
The water however is still a large open canvas.
So when a random fishing boat catches a species that has only been rumored for the last many years and caught once, I think its interesting.
Its also Squid related, which may or may not mean it instantly holds a spot in my heart.

Been a LONG time since I've had an update for this.
Been busy.
Finished my first set of teaching childrens class'.
The new semester starts April 16th.... I believe.

I was leaching off of her wireless, then she moved out.
I was without for two weeks.
Then I moved.
Still without.

So I sit at work some days, and people come in.
They tell me shit like "this is the new coke product" or "kid, this is why I'm a dick customer".
I'm fucking 21 guys, and even though you're mostly nineHundred, the very apparent generation gap is still no excuse to smarten up and realise I'm an adult. Anyways.
On the odd occasion I listen to these people.
Some times people even give us stuff.
"Here man, try the new dentyn splash winter shiver cool chill white gum for adults!".
Today it was a lottery dude.
He supplied me with a stack of new lottery(payday4life) notepads.
I made about a half a million flipbooks.
His notepads are now in the garbage.

I hope he knows they went to good use.

So its come and gone(almost.
Anyone else happy?
I don't plan on, well aside from work and a party perhaps, leaving my apartment for the next week.
I don't really need anything boxing day has to offer as far as deals are concerned.
I DO however want to get some stuff scanned and so on.

Oh yes, here is how the cards turned out.

Ignore the photoshoped in pictures acting as cover for the personal message to a person you probably don't know and wouldn't get anyways.

I've always liked having a piece in my hands, a physical copy. One hundred times over looking at it on screen.
Even something so simple as a card, its just that much better.

We should all make something some day.
Its pretty rad.

I can't believe its now two hours past the two day mark untill christmas.
See, to me, christmas isn't really a big deal, but I have a little brother and sister, they love it, so I still do it for them.
The fact that its almost christmas just marks for me how fast shit is going lately. Well, not lately, but now. In general, time really is flying.
Either way, here is a snapshot of my christmas card.
Not finished yet, but by the end of the night I should have her done and finished.

I really enjoy that this has become an online sketchbook, really holding up to the "in progress" portion of its title.
Maybe some day I'll post fully finished works *laugh*
